alfredo gobbi

Alfredo Gobbi is a very well-loved band leader amongst tango musicians. His violin playing was considered to be expressive, sweet but with a  small sound. Many feel that his orchestral writing and arranging was the most complete musically and bursting with ideas. He is not know for being a violinistic reference  as such, but holds a very special musical place in the hearts of many tango violinists. A great deal of fantastic tango musicians played in his orchestra. He recorded only 82 tunes with his group in his lifetime as his music was not popular among dancers!
He was a big fan of Julio De Caro, Osvaldo Fresedo and Carlos Di Sarli. His orchestra was formed in 1942 but didn't make their first recording until 1947. The last recordings were made in 1958.
